08:30, Säntis suspension railway valley station
Mountain tour | Crossing the Silberplatten in the Säntis massif
Easy scrambling in wild surroundings, breathtaking and beautiful. With a far-reaching view from Piz Palü to Lake Constance.
The Silberplatten are striking rock formations in the Alpstein. Their pent roof-like summit is particularly striking in the evening due to its gleaming appearance. In front of the actual summit of the Silberplatten are the Silberplattenchöpf, a group of six rocky outcrops that extend from the Stosssattel to the summit of the Silberplatten. Together we cross the last three towers and enjoy the unique atmosphere in the middle of the Säntis massif. The ascent is made easy thanks to the Säntis suspension railway, so we get off at mast two and are right in the middle of our adventure! Easy passages alternate with 3-part climbs. We abseil down from the first tower to reach the next notch. A complete mountaineering tour in impressive, yet relatively easy terrain.
Procedure and meeting place
We meet at 08:30 at the Säntis suspension railway valley station by the bus stop. From here we take the railway to mast 2 and start the ascent.
The traverse is alternating and first leads up a gully in easy terrain to the first tower. Easy abseiling into the intermediate notch. The next tower is really easy to grip and offers great climbing. A short, airy abseil leads to the next notch. Now it's time for some magnificent pitches on the last tower. The ridge to the main summit is once again rewarding and we enjoy the view of the Säntis and the surrounding mountains.
From the summit, we reach the Tierwies mountain inn in a short time, where we toast the tour together. The descent leads either back to the railway or on foot along the hiking trail.
